the Bridge
I love Offset guitars, and own more than a few myself - from Squiers to vintage custom colors. I know what it's like to play around corners and avoid danger areas on problematic guitars - it stifles inspiration, and builds a wall between you and the music you want to create.
Before a session or a show, I'd second-guess myself — Do I bring the guitar I love, or the one I can actually depend on?
Mods and upgrades - some cheap, some not - would impress me for a while. Then their own problems would show up, or they'd cost me the very character I loved in the first place. One by one, every guitar went back to factory spec - vintage rocking bridges with a few tweaks here and there, emphasis on shim angle, you know the story. It wasn't quite right, but when options are limited, you pick your poison.
What I needed didn't exist at that time - a fix that didn't cost the guitar its character. So I built one. Five years. Twenty redesigns. A patent, a lot of sleepless nights, and more manufacturing dead-ends than I'd care to admit.
Every Offset bridge before ours solved one problem and got surprised by another. Ours doesn't - because we modelled the whole system, not just the part that shouted loudest or was easiest to fix. I'm not asking you to take my word for it. Whether or not a Tuffset ends up on your guitar, I want the Tuffset lens to help you understand why the "fixes" that work, work - and why those that don't, don't.
On a 1965 Jazzmaster, somewhere between the twelfth and thirteenth redesign, was the moment it finally felt right. It was ready. When we launched in March 2024, you really showed up for us and we sold out almost immediately. We've since expanded the Tuffset range with a choice of saddle materials as well as a totally new model in the Tuffset Fixie.
None of this would have happened without the Offset community - techs, builders, and enthusiasts whose insights, and performers whose ideas, shaped almost everything we've built. We're grateful for your curiosity, your trust, your willingness to keep playing guitars everyone else had already given up on. We owe a real debt to the ones who play these bridges hard, and weren't afraid to try something different.
We've got a vibrato, a Tune-o-Matic and more in development - each one part of the same idea. Not just the best bridge for your offset, but a full build philosophy: so no player or builder ever has to trade adjustability for solidity again, on any instrument.
